Preserving Your Vision
With our expert eye doctors on your side, we can catch AMD before it can impact your vision!
What is AMD?
AMD is a condition that causes the macula part of your retina to become damaged, resulting in potential central vision loss. AMD comes in two predominant forms: wet and dry. Dry AMD is more common and is when fat deposits called drusen build up over time, damaging the macula. Wet AMD is less common but rapidly develops and requires immediate treatment.
Symptoms
Dry AMD does not have symptoms in the early stages. Some people may notice mild blurriness or difficulty seeing in low lighting as time progresses. At a later stage, in wet and dry AMD, straight lines can look wavy or crooked, with blurring central vision. You may also see blank spots with less color intensity and difficulty in low light. If straight lines look wavy, call us right away.
Risk Factors
Older patients are at a greater risk for AMD, meaning people 55 and above. Risk factors for AMD include family history, Caucasian ethnicity, and if you are a smoker. Other risk factors are sedentary lifestyles and poor nutrition.
Why Is It Important to Diagnose/
Treat AMD Early?
AMD is best treated when caught early on, and it is imperative to do so as damage is irreversible. AMD is one of the leading causes of blindness in older adults, so annual eye exams go a long way as far as preventative care. We use world-class technology to ensure that your eyes, including your macula, are in good health to catch AMD before it can cause any damage to your vision.
